About The Woodmans Arms
About Us
The Woodmans Arms is now owned by Landlord Harry Fletcher, ably supported by his brother Ronnie as Head Chef. Their objective is to provide great food and great service to our loyal and growing customer base. And we hope you will enjoy your experience when you come to visit us.

Before taking over The Woodmans Arms on 17th March 2017, Harry and Ronnie had worked together in various places on the Isle of Wight as well as in mainland Europe. All-out chef Ronnie worked on the Island in various kitchens since his was 14 years old and studied hard for his qualifications in the culinary arts. Harry started his working life as a bartender, later moving into bar management. Harry then went to work under Ronnie to train as a chef at the Shanklin Hotel (then run by the Moorman family). Harry then went to France for four years to continue his training, before coming back to the Island to become head chef of the ‘Chine inn’ In Shanklin, under Bill Downer.
Since taking over ‘The Woodmans’, Harry and Ronnie have established a great reputation with their home-cooked food. Using their extensive knowledge and skills they have created a delightful menu of freshly cooked cottage style dishes with everything being prepared on site. One of their specialities is their ground to plate initiative where seasonal vegetables are grown on site to supplement the daily specials board in the spring and summer months. And of course with Harry’s extensive management experience in the mix too, customer service is exceptional – everything is delivered to your table with a smile.
Harry & Ronnie are closely supported by other family members too. Their mother, Wendy, helps with the accounts, their dad advises on the garden, and their cousin Louie works in the kitchen, putting his stamp on the menu and daily specials. In essence, everyone here believes that family and friends (some of whom also work at the Woodmans) is key to achieving Harry and Ronny’s vision.

Osborne House, once Queen Victoria's private retreat, is a significant attraction near to Wooton village. Built in the Italianate style, the house and its extensive gardens reflect Queen Victoria's vision and Prince Albert's design influence. The estate offers amazingly detailed insights into the victorian era and the royal family's life in what was effectively their private house, with highlights such as the children's Swiss Cottage and the secluded royal beach with it’s original bathing carriage. Osbourne House is only 3 miles from The Woodmans Arms so a visit to Osborne, followed by a dinner with us really is a rather special day in our view.

Fishbourne, located near Wootton, serves as one of the primary ferry terminals on the Isle of Wight. It connects the island to Portsmouth via frequent Wightlink Ferry Services, a vital transport link for residents and tourists alike. The Woodmans Arms is only a very easy 2.3 mile drive from the Fishbourne terminal.
Similarly, Red Funnel Ferries provides the Island's ferry route from Southampton to East Cowes. Again this is another main route used by many visitors, and one that offers superb views past all the famous liner berths of Southampton (Titanic anyone?). And the East Cowes terminal is only 4 miles from us, so again a very easy stop on your way.
So if you are arriving or departing from either terminal, check out our Google Maps Location here to get simple directions – a quick lunch or supper at the Woodmans might be just the ticket.
